With Twins

4 notes

Two of everything, at the same time

The logistics section. Everything here comes from a trip we took, which is why some of it is unglamorous and none of it is theoretical.

Flying

Flying with twins

Flying

Two lap infants, one aisle, and the twenty-five minutes you should not spend on the aircraft.

  • Book after the first nap and before the second.
  • Window and aisle in the same row, never two aisles.
  • Gate-check the double, leave the single at home.
  • Skip family boarding. Walk the gate until final call.

Driving

Driving

Ninety minutes is one nap. Plan the whole trip around that number.

  • Leave at the start of the nap window, not before it.
  • Stops need grass, not a forecourt.
  • Pack the cool bag for the drive home, not the drive out.

Sleeping

Sleeping with twins

Sleeping

Ground floor, blackout, and a door that closes between them and you.

  • Confirm the second cot in writing before you arrive.
  • Ask for ground floor and a patio if there is one.
  • A separate bedroom buys back the evening.

Eating

Eating with twins

Eating

Breakfast time is the single most useful fact about a hotel.

  • Ask what time breakfast starts before you ask anything else.
  • Book lunch at 11.30. The room is empty and the staff have time.
  • Two high chairs is a question, not an assumption.

The Dispatch

One useful email a month.

An honest hotel, one mistake, one packing decision, and one practical lesson worth knowing before you leave.

Independent notes. Honest disclosures. Always.
